Claude Makelele has said he is confident that Maurizio Sarri is the right man to lead Chelsea FC and suggested the Italian has the ‘capacity to make history’.
He said that Chelsea’s stand out performers, like Hazard and Kante will pave the way for a successful Sarri regime.
The Frenchman also suggested that their outstanding players will take Chelsea FC in a new direction.
He told the Daily Star: “I’m confident.
“He [Sarri] still has good players, [Eden] Hazard is there, [N’Golo] Kante is there.
“These kinds of players give a different story about Chelsea than the way we knew Chelsea before.
“I think he has the capacity to make history for Chelsea again.”
Makelele was part of the Chelsea FC side that won the Premier League title in 2004-05 and 2005-06 under José Mourinho.
Much like Conte, Mourinho employed a philosophy of limiting the oppositions capacity to play freely in order to punish them without hesitation when they inevitably present the opportunity.
Makelele was the lynchpin of Chelsea FC’s midfield in this system due to his ability to read the game and shut down opposition attacks at source and spring his own side on the counter.
Whilst Conte and Mourinho can supply winning football, the entertainment value of their philosophies soon dwindles as the predictability of winning drably takes hold.
Sarri is tasked with arguably more than Conte ever was; to win, and to win pretty, but Makelele for one believes he might just do it.
He argues the sheer weight of a few game-changers in the Chelsea FC squad could provide the path for Sarri to tread.
