Ian Wright has said that Paul Pogba performing at the level he should end the battle between José Mourinho and Ed Woodward.

United’s manager and executive vice-chairman have been involved in a well-publicised spat in recent months.

Wright believes if Pogba was to perform to the level he did for France at the summers’ World Cup, United would get the results to ultimately end the feud.

“I think what’s happening is two massive egos, and [neither] of them are backing down right now,” he told Sky Sports.

“I think Paul Pogba is the person who could just really blast this out of the water by playing well.

“But if he continues to play like he is playing, where we’ve seen a little bit of it, not enough of it, and we’re not seeing it consistently enough, Mourinho would be well within his rights to say: ‘We’re not getting enough!’

“But then you have Ed Woodward saying: ‘He’s our man, he’s our talisman, you have got to play him!’”

Mourinho has publicly bemoaned the fact that Woodward refused to commit to signing any of his transfer targets at centre-half in the summer transfer window.

Whilst Woodward is yet to state his opinion on the matter, rumours suggested he had told Mourinho to work with what he had.

Mourinho spent a reported £34.2m on Eric Bailly in 2016 and £31.5m on Victor Lindelöf in 2017 since he took over at Manchester United.

Bailly had performed well at times, but has failed to find a consistent partner, whilst Lindelöf has struggled for any kind of form since joining.

United have lost two of their four league games this season, already sitting six points behind the early pace-setters, and chaos in the press has ensued.

Wright believes that results will do the talking for Mourinho, and despite the problems at centre-half, Pogba stepping up to his best level is the solution to these problems.
