ED WOODWARD is now monitoring the mood at Manchester United by watching training under Jose Mourinho.

United’s executive vice-chairman has become so concerned by the club’s preparations for matches he is taking an increasing interest in how the manager is handling the squad.

And that includes viewing first-team sessions at Carrington from the touchline.

Although Woodward’s relationship with the Special One is healthy away from football matters — Mourinho sends kisses on his text messages in exchanges about his kids — the heat is on after successive Premier League defeats.

Losing to Brighton, then a 3-0 Old Trafford thumping by Tottenham has added to the tension.

Woodward, who has an office at United’s Carrington base, wants to give Mourinho time to turn it around after a chaotic start to the season.

United’s money men also know firing the Special One — so soon after axing David Moyes and Louis van Gaal — will be a financial embarrassment.

The club face a tricky away tie against Burnley on Sunday, before facing Watford at Vicarage Road and Wolves at the Theatre of Dreams in the top-flight.

Mourinho’s men have been handed a tricky Champions League group, where they will come up against Juventus, Valencia and Young Boys.

Cristiano Ronaldo will return to his former stomping ground for the first time since helping Real Madrid dump United out of the European Cup during the 2012/13 season.
