LAMBORGHINI has unveiled its new Aventador SVJ – and it’s one of the fastest road cars in the world.

The glamorous supercar set a new record on Germany’s Nurburgring race track, giving it bragging rights on the course famed for testing out the world’s quickest motors.

The Aventador SVJ broke the Nurburgring record

The new record holder beat classic sports cars like the Porsche 911, Nissan GT-R and rival Lamborghini model, the Huracan Performante, to claim the title.

SVJ had its official world premiere in California late last week, impressing the motoring world with incredible performance stats.

The latest edition to the Aventador range has a blistering 2.8-second 0-60mph time, and catapults to 124mph from a dead stop in just 8.6 seconds.

It also has an estimated top speed “in excess of 217mph”, meaning it could push itself to contest with the fastest speed-limited road cars around.

The Italian car maker will also make a line of special edition ’63’ versions

Fitted with a powerful 6.5-litre V12 engine, the SVJ is capable of 759bhp, adding extra flavour to the already spicy Aventador.

And the new model also boasts some cosmetic improvements on last year’s S edition, with designers even taking inspiration from space ships and fighter jets.

The front bonnet and rear panel have both been given a new look, along with an oversized rear fin.

SVJ is expected to retail for more than £270,000

The Italian marque has described the new model as a “driver’s car, developed to maximise the union between driver and car in the most extreme road and track conditions”.

Lamborghini will build just 900 units of the regular SVJ, along with an additional 63 special edition “SVJ 63” versions to pay homage to the manufacturer’s founding year.

The car maker is yet to reveal the exact price, but it will no doubt fetch more than the £270,000 Aventador S.

Stefano Domenicali, Automobili Lamborghini Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, said: “The Aventador SVJ is an innovative car and represents the absolute pinnacle of our super sports car product range.

“The challenge to Lamborghini designers and engineers was to improve the purest essence of the Lamborghini super sports car, drawing on every inspiration from a space ship to a jet fighter: all the most exceptional examples of super-fast, super-athletic, aerodynamic superiority.

“The Aventador SVJ takes another step into the future, shaping the potential for super sports car development.”
