Though the summer transfer window has shut down in England, Premier League clubs can still sell some of their fringe players to other clubs before the close of the European transfer window on the first of September.
If there is one player that needs to be sold out by Sarri before the transfer deadline day, that must be defensive midfielder Davide Zappacosta.
Signed by Antonio Conte, the Italy international didn’t have much impact on the team’s display throughout Conte’s reign as Chelsea manager.
Though Zappacosta was a back up to Victor Moses at the right side of defense, the player didn’t impress in the matches he played for the Blues throughout the 2017-18 season.
As a wing-back, Zappacosta is expected to make many great crosses to opponents’ half but that was missing from his game as he preferred to make short passes to the nearest teammate.
Since Sarri took over from Conte, the manager has changed the club’s formation to 4-4-2 which ultimately cut-off the role of a wing-back from the team.
Therefore, neither Victor Moses nor the Italian player would feature as a wing-back throughout Sarri’s spell at Stamford Bridge, instead, they could be deployed as a right-back.
As much as one could argue that Moses is not a natural defender, he has put in more assuring display for the team since Sarri took charge than Zappacosta.
Keeping the Italian for the rest of this season will definitely be a waste of spot in the manager’s match-day squad.
