ENGLISH football should feel fortunate VAR is yet to be implemented after mass confusion at Allianz Arena.

In Bayern Munich’s first game of the season, a 3-1 win over Hoffenheim, Niko Kovač’s team had to retake a penalty before having a goal ruled out for handball after video review.

Confusion was in the air in Munich.

But it was of little concern to Kovac who saw Thomas Muller, Robert Lewandowski and Arjen Robben score in his first win as Bayern boss.

What will have been a worry to the Croatian and the 70,000 home fans in the Allianz Arena was the sight of Kingsley Coman limping off the field in the first-half.

France’s 22-year-old forward was left in tears after a strong challenge from Nico Shulz.

By then, Muller had put the hosts ahead but Adam Szalai equalised just before the hour mark for Julian Nagelsmann’s team.

Eight minutes from time, Robert Lewandowski placed the ball on the penalty spot after former West Ham defender Håvard Nordtveit brought down Frank Ribery.

Lewandowski’s shot was saved and Robben converted the rebound, but it was brought back after a video review.

Polish striker Lewandowski did not miss when given a second chance.

Robben added a third but only after Muller had a goal chalked off for handball.

VAR continues to be in very arduous realms.
