LAZYTOWN star Stefan Karl Stefansson died today aged 43 following a two-year battle with bile duct cancer.

The 43-year-old Icelandic actor played villain Robbie Rotten in the popular children’s TV show between 2004 and 2007, and again from 2013-2014.

Fans who grew up watching the show have paid their respects on Twitter.

Comments included: “so i just found out robby rotten from lazy town died today… my childhood 😭.

“Lazytown was a big part of my childhood, and it’s so sad to see such an amazing character that brought smiles to everyone even in 2018 has left us. We’ll miss you Rotten.

“Even if his character never became a meme, his work was great and was part of my childhood watching Lazy Town. Sad to hear he’s gone but at least he won’t be forgotten :).

The late star’s wife Steinunn Olina Porsteinsdottir previously said of his illness: “We know that time is now more precious than never, and we have decided to enjoy it, while having the chance.”

“It is unbearable for us to tell our children that their father will not be an old man and that the time we have together is very short.”
